Is there a way to run scripts in the background of an analysis without the user seeing them

I have an iron python script that does custom sorting on a column based off of if someone is selected, they move to the top of the filter. Each time someone is selected the script has to run again and it takes about 5 seconds each time, but then the screen keeps flickering and the filter/visualizations keep refreshing. Is there a way to 'hide' that backend work from the user so they only see the end result
