how can I use IronPython to populate the values in a drop-down list

I want to create an Action Control to initialize all values in a drop-down list that is being used for x and y axis in a scatter plot. e.g. I'd have two buttons; FRUIT & VEGETABLE. If I click on FRUIT, my drop-down list will be populated with values of all fruit. If I click VEGETABLE, drop-down list will be populated with vegetables.

Currently there is no API available to create/modify the Drop Down property controls. There is an existing idea for this and I would suggest you to vote for this idea,
