Is it possible to trigger a python script located on a remote server from changes within a spotfire tool

I am wondering if it is possible, and if so what the best way to fire off a python script located on a remote machine from changes made within a spotfire tool.

One method I am considering is to try and use the spotfire R engine to fire off a remote python script, that writes out to a sql database where the tool reads from. Can you see issues with this approach Or is there a better method
