Iron Python and SQL DB interaction

Does anyone have an example of how to commit data to a SQL DB, run a stored proc against said DB, then refresh the Spotfire Datasource

So if I want to plot a line y=mx+b, and I want to commit the values for "m" and "b" to to a db table, then refresh a datasource pointing to that table in SF via a button. I know I have to create the objects in Spotfire via properties but I do not know where to begin with Python.
