how to setup a scatter plot with means connected by a dotted line

I would like to generate something like this: 

 

however, spotfire says that lines cannot form between categorical plot

is there a way to achieve this? I really do not want to manually make this in excel

If the means values are in a table or column you can use 'Lines and Curves' under Properties to create the line, and specify the look of the line used to connect the points.

if the x axis  are all categories, how do I set the X-values in the dialog box for "lines and curves"
