Hello,

I recommend starting by checking the TIBCO Spotfire Server installation and administration manual for general instructions, starting with the overview page "Information Services" - https://docs.tibco.com/pub/spotfire_server/11.4.9/doc/html/TIB_sfire_server_tsas_admin_help/server/topics/information_services.html

In short, the high-level process for adding a new type of Information Services data source is this:

1. Install database driver

2. Add/enable data source template

3. Create data source

4. Create an Information Model for the data source

5. End users can now start accessing the data using Information Links.

Comment about #1: Install database driver

In this case, for installing a driver for the data source, for Oracle, you can choose to use the DataDirect driver that ships with the Spotfire server.

If you want to install a different driver, e.g. the one provide by Oracle, refer to https://docs.tibco.com/pub/spotfire_server/11.4.9/doc/html/TIB_sfire_server_tsas_admin_help/server/topics/installing_database_drivers_for_information_designer_2.html. Remember to restart your TIBCO Spotfire Server after putting the new driver in place.

Comment about #2: Add/enable data source template.

There are existing data source templates for Oracle - see https://docs.tibco.com/pub/spotfire_server/11.4.9/doc/html/TIB_sfire_server_tsas_admin_help/server/topics/included_drivers_and_data_source_templates_for_information_services.html - that you could enable and use as they are (or create a new, tweaked one if needed).

You can add/enable data source templates using the configuration tool, or using command line. See https://docs.tibco.com/pub/spotfire_server/11.4.9/doc/html/TIB_sfire_server_tsas_admin_help/server/topics/installing_database_drivers_for_information_designer_2.html

Comment about #3: Create data source

For instructions on how to create a data source, see the TIBCO Spotfire Analyst manual: https://docs.tibco.com/pub/sfire-analyst/11.4.5/doc/html/en-US/TIB_sfire-analyst_UsersGuide/index.htm#t=id%2Fid_creating_a_data_source.htm&rhsearch=information%20designer&rhsyns=%20

Comment about #4: Create an Information Model

Refer to the Analyst manual for general instructions on this:

https://docs.tibco.com/pub/sfire-analyst/11.4.5/doc/html/en-US/TIB_sfire-analyst_UsersGuide/index.htm#t=id%2Fid_general_guidelines_for_setting_up_an_im.htm&rhsearch=information%20designer&rhsyns=%20

Can you please feedback if we can control data source privilege for the users

Explanation more :

* If I have users X – Y and have 2 data sources Oracle and Sybase how to let user X access both data sources

And Y access the Oracle data source only and cannot access or see the other one

Hello,

There are two main aspect to that - you can control if a user (or more accurately, the group it belongs to) has access to/can see the Data Source at all using Library Folder Permission, and then you can also control what privileges the user has in the data source itself using various authentication options.

Start by reading the page Overview of Data Sources in Information Designer (https://docs.tibco.com/pub/sfire-analyst/11.4.5/doc/html/en-US/TIB_sfire-analyst_UsersGuide/index.htm#t=id%2Fid_data_sources_overview.htm&rhsearch=Designer&rhhlterm=Designer&rhsyns=%20) in the TIBCO Spotfire Analyst User's Guide.

I have included the key information from that page below:

"With Information Designer, user authentication to the data source can be made in two ways. The first way is to set up the authentication while creating the data source. In this case, all users connect with the same credentials. This is a simple way to authenticate users when everyone has the same permissions to the data source. Further limitation of the access to a data source can be applied by placing the data source within a folder with limited permissions for some users or groups. For more information, see Setting Folder Permissions.

The other way is to require authentication each time an information link is used. This is useful when a more detailed security model is required. Using user authentication, row level security can be obtained. The credentials can either be supplied by the user or by a plug-in when running an information link against this data source. A plug-in minimizes the number of times one has to log into the TIBCO Spotfire environment, leaving it up to the plug-in to deliver the data source credentials. Without a plug-in, users will have to supply their data source credentials in a prompt. Credentials can be cached in the data source so that users are prompted only once for each session."
