  • Custom Connectors for Spotfire®

This article includes a number of Custom Connectors that have been developed to provide functionality or connectivity to a system or database until such time as Spotfire® includes an equivalent fully supported Connector.

    Overview

To connect Spotfire clients to an external system, you can use a Connector. Connectors enable you to load and analyze data from, for example, databases and data warehouses. Spotfire® ships with a wide range of Connectors.  The Spotfire® Connectors page provides information about supported database versions, data source drivers, and other important requirements, for all data connectors that are available in Spotfire.

Listed below are a number of Custom Connectors that have been developed to provide functionality or connectivity to a system or database until such time as Spotfire® includes an equivalent fully supported Connector.

    Azure Databricks

This Connector allows Spotfire® users to connect to Azure Databricks using Azure AD Token Authentication or an Azure AD Personal Access Token.  The functionality once connected is identical to the GA Spotfire® Apache Spark SQL Connector.

The Connector can be downloaded from the Spotfire Exchange.

    Azure SQL and Azure Synapse

This Connector allows Spotfire® users to connect to Azure SQL or Azure Synapse using Azure AD Token Authentication or an Azure AD Personal Access Token.  The functionality once connected is identical to the GA Spotfire® Microsoft SQL Server Connector.

The Connector can be downloaded from the Spotfire Exchange.

Spotfire 14.2 introduced an updated SQL Server Connector which now supports OAuth2 Authentication and Custom Connection Properties.  Users can now use this new Connector to work with Azure SQL Database and Azure Synapse Analytics with SSO.  Users running Spotfire versions prior to Spotfire 14.2 can continue to use the Custom Connector until such a time as they are able to upgrade.

    Google Sheets

This Connector allows Spotfire® users to import data from Google Sheets, CSV and Excel Files located on Google Drive or Google Shared Drives.

The Connector can be downloaded from the Spotfire Exchange.

    Microsoft SharePoint Online Files

This Connector allows Spotfire® users to import data from CSV and Excel Files located on Microsoft SharePoint Online.  Note: Spotfire® has a built-in Connector for reading Microsoft SharePoint Online Lists.  This custom Connector allows one to read files from Microsoft SharePoint Online.

The Connector can be downloaded from the Spotfire Exchange.

    Dropbox

This Connector allows Spotfire® users to import data from CSV and Excel Files located on Dropbox Cloud Storage.  Users can browse for or search for files, choose the rows and columns to import, then load the data into a Spotfire Data Table.  Setup is available via Spotfire Analyst but once configured, the Data Connection can be used in Spotfire Web Player and Spotfire Automation Services.

The Connector can be downloaded from the Spotfire Exchange.

    Trino

This Connector allows Spotfire® users to connect to Trino (formerly Presto SQL).  Trino is a highly parallel and distributed query engine, designed for efficient, low latency analytics.

The Connector can be downloaded from the  Spotfire Exchange.

    Denodo

This Connector allows Spotfire® users to connect to Denodo.  Denodo is a data virtualization platform, providing data integration and abstraction across a broad range of enterprise, cloud, big data and unstructured data sources.

The Connector can be downloaded from the Spotfire Exchange.

    Cloud Drive Export for Spotfire®

This is a Custom Export Tool for Spotfire which allows exporting of data directly onto various Cloud Drive storage.  Exports can be done manually via the UI or setup as Spotfire Automation Services jobs to be run on a scheduled basis.  The following Cloud Drive Vendors are supported:

    • Google Drive
    • Microsoft SharePoint Online Files
    • Dropbox
    • Amazon S3

Cloud Drive Export for Spotfire® can be downloaded from the Spotfire Exchange.

    Spotfire® Versions

These Connectors are compatible with Spotfire® versions 10.3 and above.  Make sure to check in the user guides for installation instructions specific to the version of Spotfire® you are using.  If Spotfire® provides a fully supported Connector that matches the functionality provided by one of these Custom Connectors, it is expected that the user will move to using the version shipped with Spotfire®.
