Categorical Variables in a Logistic Regression Model

Hi everyone,

I'm new to using Logistic Regression models inside of Spotfire so please forgive me if this is pretty easy and I haven't been able to figure it out yet but how can I use categorical variables in my predictor columns without having to create dummy variables I have a few variables that contain upwards of 15 categorical options that I would like to be able to insert as a predictor variables similar to how I would do AS.FACTOR using R. Am I doing something wrong and I don't see how I can get the model to read it or is my only option to do dummy variables.

I just did a quick test of this and was able to select String columns as Predictors in the Linear Regression dialog. What are the steps you are taking for this Are you getting error messages Details and/or a screen shot will help determine the problem.

Thanks Kirsten for replying. I'm not sure what I was doing wrong the first time but after reading your post I took another shot at it and was able to get categorical variables to indeed calculate in the model. Thanks for your reply.
