Issue with null values in Spotfire after upgrade

I recently switched from Spotfire version 11 to 14 and I am facing this issue where blank or null values in columns are appearing in filters as blank and (empty).

Usually they just appear as (empty). Please refer to the screenshot 1 which shows how it used to appear and 2 which shows blank values. 

Data is coming from Tibco Data Virtulization and there is no issue with that. I have also gone through the sql to make sure everything is in order. 

Any suggestions are appreciated.

That is unusual. I see in my Spotfire 14.4 version that the (empty) value is still used:

Is there anything in the data canvas that could indicate something is off?
If not, can you try to add a transformation in place for the empty values (Replace Value transformation on the data table)? Make it a distinctive value so you can easily trace it back in the filter values.

Looks like issue is with the data source and not Spotfire.
