Why does color scheme not work when values are not matched against a column?

I started with a column with the company colors, loaded this into Spotfire and created a visualization for which I set the colors correctly. Next I saved the color scheme. I notice the following:

• When I apply the color scheme to another visualization while matching colors to values, it works perfectly
• When I apply the color scheme without matching colors, I get random colors, not the ones from the color scheme.

Do you recognize this, is there a solution? Is there a maximum number of colors that can be added to the color scheme for the non-matching scenario?
