Custome Expression to split column names

Hi,

I have a box plot chart to show 16 columns name below as Y-axis. and X-axis to display as [Column Names] like picture attached below. But the X-axis is difficult to view due to the long column names.

I tried to do some custome expression like to just show "0xF" for example to display on the X-axis. But it give me error with "invalid function". Is that not allow to use split function on the custome expression on chart
