  • What's New in Spotfire 12.3

TIBCO Spotfire 12.3 adds support for Red Hat Enterprise Linux, offers secure, personalized, single sign-on access to the large variety of data sources supported through TIBCO Data Virtualization, and introduces several new features to improve the experience for web authors, administrators and users.

TIBCO Spotfire 12.3 makes data access easier for end-users by providing single sign-on access for a large variety of data sources, using OAuth 2 and OIDC for secure and personalized data access through TIBCO Data Virtualization. Also in this release, the data canvas expands to more data preparation capabilities now available to web authors and support for Red Hat Enterprise Linux expands the deployment options for administrators.

    Data Access

OAuth support for TIBCO Data Virtualization connector

The Spotfire connector for TIBCO Data Virtualization (TDV) now supports OpenID Connect / OAuth 2.0 as authentication / authorization option to allow Spotfire users seamlessly connect to TDV using modern security standards, enabling SSO and personalized data access.

OpenID Connect and OAuth 2.0 are now de facto industry standards for online authentication and authorization with support for SSO and protection of user data by providing consented access to the data without revealing the user?s identity or credentials. Since both protocols are designed to work on the web and accross multiple domains, they are especially useful in cloud deployments and/or with cloud data sources.

Integrating TIBCO Data Virtualization with Spotfire (which can be done using the connector or by configuring the direct integration that is surfaced in the Files and data flyout) vastly extends the number and type of data sources that can be accessed from Spotfire and allows for taking advantage of TDV's enterprise-scale data virtualization capabilities to orchestrate the data.

    Data Management

Configure key columns from data canvas

Key columns for a data table can be defined from the data canvas. Key columns uniquely identify all rows in a data table to enable functionalities such as re-application of markings, tags or bookmarks when re-opening an analysis. Authors can replace specific values in data tables, with updates being kept when the analysis is re-opened.

View column & data table properties in data canvas Column (and, in some cases, hierarchies) and data table properties can be viewed in the data canvas. Authors can click each graphical node in the data canvas to see the properties values associated with each node.

Data table settings from data canvas Data table settings can be defined from the data canvas with options to switch data storage settings (linked or embedded in analysis), how to handle filters creation (automatic or manual), as well as additional settings to show/hide the data table in the user interface, enable caching for calculated columns and (in the desktop client only) show or skip the column mismatches dialog.

Reload all or linked data sources from data canvas Authors can reload either all data sources or linked data sources only for a data table in the data canvas.

Copy column formatting from data in analysis flyout The formatting for a column can be changed by copying the formatting from another column, when modifying the column formatting from the data in analysis flyout.

Copy column sort order from data in analysis flyout The sort order of a column can be changed by copying the sort order from another column, when modifying the sort order from the data in analysis flyout.

Geocoding settings from data in analysis flyout Geocoding properties can be viewed and edited from the data in analysis flyout. Author can easily specify that a column contains geographic information to be used for positioning data on a map.

Automation task to run data function Execute Data Function is available as a task in Automation Service Job Builder. This task enables running and completing a data function before performing later tasks and also enables chaining executions and completions of multiple data functions in a predetermined sequence in an automated job.

    Administration

Search expressions in Spotfire Library URL

Search expressions are now added to the URL of the Spotfire Library view. Just search in the Spotfire library view, then copy the URL from your web browser. This makes it easy to provide custom views of the library content for users. As an example one can provide an URL that lists the main "Sales related dashboards and/or data sources" based on a search expression including a specific library keyword that one has tagged selected assets with.

Red Hat Enterprise Linux support RHEL 9 is now supported as the operating system for:

    • TIBCO Spotfire® Server
    • TIBCO Spotfire® Web Player
    • TIBCO Spotfire® Automation Services
    • TIBCO Spotfire® Statistics Services
    • TIBCO® Enterprise Runtime for R - Server Edition
    • TIBCO Spotfire® Service for Python

Change Spotfire Web Player logging level from Admin UI In Monitoring & Diagnostics, you can now do the following:

    • In the Overview page, you can see the current log configuration level for Web Player services and Automation Services instances in the new "Log configuration" column. You can set and reset the log configuration level using the context menu or by clicking the current level value for a server or instance in the "Log configuration" column.
    • In the Instances page, you can see the current log configuration level for the selected instance, and you can change it by clicking on the current value.

Logging configuration is persisted in the log4net.config file.

Login_hint in OpenID Connect authentication requests The Spotfire Server now supports the use of the login_hint parameter in OpenID Connect authentication requests. The config-oidc command now has two new arguments:

    • --provider-include-login-hint
    • --provider-login-hint-claim

Note that the login_hint feature should not be combined with the id_token_hint.

For more information, see the OpenID Connect spec.

Set required scopes for identity providers in data source template A new parameter, scope, is available for the TokenCredentialsProvider class for Information Services data source templates. With the scope parameter, you can specify what OAuth2 scopes that are required for accessing data from a data source when you log in with an identity provider.

For more information, see the OpenID Connect spec.
