Highlight of recent deprecated and removed features
- Spotfire Server: The API class com.spotfire.server.security. AbstractPostAuthenticationFilter is no longer supported. Removed since Spotfire 12.0.0.
- Spotfire Server: The following API methods have been deprecated. They contain references to Java EE 8 and that will not work in a future version of Spotfire Server based on the newer Jakarta EE 9 or later:
- Object AuthenticationContext.getAttribute(String name): Use of the attribute name javax.servlet.request.X509Certificate is deprecated. The attribute name and the returned class type will both change to jakarta. servlet.request.X509Certificate in Jakarta EE 9 or later.
- Enumeration<String> getAttributeNames(): The attribute name javax.servlet.request.X509Certificate is deprecated. It will change to jakarta.servlet.request.X509Certificate in Jakarta EE 9 or later.
- Cookie[] getCookies(): The method is deprecated as the returned class type. javax.servlet.http.Cookie will change to jakarta.servlet.http.Cookie in Jakarta EE 9 or later. Use the String getHeader("Cookie") method invocation instead. Deprecated since Spotfire 12.0.0.
- Spotfire Server: In a future release an upgrade will be done to the namespaces defined in the Jakarta EE 9 project.
If you have custom code deployed on the Spotfire server, this means that some of your code might need to be altered and rebuilt. Several important third party components are upgraded to use new namespaces defined in the Jakarta EE 9 project. A future release will start using these upgraded components. When using the upgraded components it is important to know that some, but not all, imports of javax must be changed to jakarta. For example, javax.servlet.http.HttpServletRequest must be changed to jakarta.servlet.http.HttpServletRequest. A list of components that will be changing namespace can be found here: https://wiki.eclipse.org/Jakarta_EE_Maven_Coordinates. Deprecated since Spotfire 10.10.11, 11.4.6 & 11.8.0.
- Spotfire Analyst/Business Author/Consumer: The functionality ?Share to tibbr®? is deprecated and no longer supported. Deprecated since Spotfire 11.7.
- Spotfire Server: The hostName and address attributes of the com.spotfire.server:type=Server JMX MBean are deprecated and will be removed without replacement in a future version. Deprecated since Spotfire 11.6.0.
- Spotfire Server: The getReturnEndpoint() method of the CustomWebAuthenticatorInitContext API class is deprecated and will be removed in a future release. Please use the new method with the same name in the WebAuthenticationContext API class instead. Deprecated since Spotfire 11.6.0.
If upgrading from versions lower than 11.4, please note the additional important change documented earlier:
- Spotfire Analyst: The jQuery 1.12.4 and jQuery UI 1.9.2 JavaScript libraries will not be distributed with future releases of Spotfire software. Your use of these third party libraries, whether in this release, past releases, or future releases of Spotfire analytics, is at your own discretion, and is not supported or warranted by TIBCO. Please see Best Practices for Writing Custom JavaScript Code in Text Areas for additional information on using JavaScript code with Spotfire products. Deprecated since Spotfire 11.4.0.
For more information about these and other deprecated and removed features in all products and versions of interest to you, please read the individual release notes, available on the Product Documentation site (https://docs.tibco.com/products/tibco-spotfire/)

Tech Tips
Spotfire 12.0 bridges insights and actions, with powerful new ways to make decisions right from the visualizations, integrate data science and trained data models in the visual analytics flow, immerse yourself in new and improved visualizations, improve collaboration with library version history and take full advantage of a truly cloud-native analytics platform. This version includes new functionality that could take your Spotfire experience to even greater levels.
Run all Spotfire services on Linux
Spotfire® Web Player and Spotfire® Automation Services software is now supported on Debian 11.
Deploy Spotfire services on Kubernetes
We have released the Cloud Deployment Kit for Spotfire® as open source to provide a reference and starting point for the deployment of Spotfire software using containers and Helm charts on a Kubernetes cluster.
Quicker and easier upgrades
You can upgrade Spotfire Server with one command using the official Spotfire Helm chart:
helm upgrade--install my-spotfire tibco/spotfire-server -f my-values.yml |
New configuration is applied using the chart values. The containers with a newer Spotfire Server version replace the older ones. When upgrading Spotfire software using the provided Helm charts, the Spotfire database is automatically upgraded to the schema version required by the newer Spotfire Server version. You can upgrade each of the Spotfire services the same way, using their respective Helm charts.
Horizontal & positionable legends
Color by, Shape by, and Series by legend items can now be displayed horizontally, above or below your visualizations, aligned left, right, or centered.
You can set a legend to horizontal mode from the legend panel directly from the legend properties. Setting the alignment and position is done directly from the horizontal legend.
Top page navigation
The page navigation bar and status bar can now be displayed on top of the visualizations canvas.
Prior analyses are not affected. Page navigation and status bar positions can be switched to the top at document level from its document properties, or as a user level option or as a group preference set by an administrator.
