    1. Summary

    TIBCO Analytics Forum (TAF) 2021 was an electric event with attendees and speakers from all over the world. Attendees learned new approaches, heard inspiring stories, networked with their peers, skilled up their abilities, and competed for prizes. The 2-day virtual event featured keynote speakers, customer & TIBCO breakout sessions, panel discussions, solution demos, product training, and Hackathon activities.

    Dr. Spotfire Tips for Visual Perception

    The face of TIBCO's Dr. Spotfire program Neil Kanungo is joined by TIBCO Chief Analytics Officer Michael O'Connell for a discussion on visual design best practices and the science behind visual perception. Human perception of data values and patterns, the importance of accuracy and speed, and how to design visual applications to avoid optical illusions will be covered. You will come away with a greater understanding of visual analytics communication and tips to improve your own work. Michael will draw from his extensive work and his book on visual analytics best practices, A Picture is Worth a Thousand Tables..     Ben Shneiderman, Emeritus Distinguished University Professor, Department of Computer Science and Founding Director of the Human-Computer Interaction Laboratory, University of Maryland

    BEN SHNEIDERMAN is an Emeritus Distinguished University Professor in the Department of Computer Science and Founding Director (1983-2000) of the Human-Computer Interaction Laboratory (http://hcil.umd.edu) at the University of Maryland. He is a Fellow of the AAAS, ACM, IEEE, NAI, and the Visualization Academy and a Member of the U.S. National Academy of Engineering, in recognition of his pioneering contributions to human-computer interaction and information visualization. Shneiderman's information visualization innovations include dynamic query sliders and multiple coordinated windows for Spotfire, the development of treemaps for viewing hierarchical data, and novel network visualizations for NodeXL. He has received six honorary doctorates for his contributions.

    Ben is the lead author of Designing the User Interface: Strategies for Effective Human-Computer Interaction (6th ed., 2016). His forthcoming book on Human-Centered AI, will be published by Oxford University Press in early 2022.

    Jana Marlé-Zizková, Co-founder & CEO, Meiro & SheLovesData

    Avid data and diversity advocate, Jana headed teams and country operations at Estee Lauder, Sybase, Sas, and Socialbakers. In 2015 she left the corporate career to start a data consultancy, soon followed by a Singapore-based Customer Data Platform (CDP) tech start-up Meiro where she is the CEO. At the same time, Jana co-founded the non-profit movement She Loves Data. Since 2016 over 13,000 women have attended 150+ free data & tech workshops, certification programs, and webinars. She Loves Data has chapters in 16 countries on 3 continents. She Loves Data received the 2019 'Diversity Initiative Award in Asia' by Women in IT. In 2008 & 2009 Jana was named one of the ?Top 25 businesswomen? in the Czech Republic and she is featured on the inaugural 2020 ?Singapore 100 Women in Tech? list. Jana is a volunteering mentor of a non-commercial mentoring project for future female leaders My Odyssey. As someone with a passion for uncharted territories, Jana circumnavigated the world on a 38ft sailboat between 2003-2005.

    Kate Strachnyi, Founder, DATAcated

    Kate Strachnyi is the Founder of DATAcated, providing brand amplification for companies focused on artificial intelligence (AI), machine learning (ML), and data science. She's also the founder of the DATAcated Academy ? delivering training on data visualization best practices. She's delivered several courses on data storytelling, dashboard techniques and visual best practices. Additionally, Kate is the host of the DATAcated Conference and the DATAcated On Air Podcast.     Ahmer Srivastava, Director, Memory Products Solutions, Western Digital

    Ahmer has a deep passion and experience for bringing together ideas, technology, and people to solve complex problems through software-driven manufacturing and advanced analytics. He currently spearheads strategic initiatives for big data analytics, visual analytics, and predictive analytics solutions for Western Digital's NAND flash product engineering & manufacturing teams. With 20+ years of experience in high-tech manufacturing at IBM, Hitachi Global Storage, and SanDisk/Western Digital, he brings deep expertise in failure analysis and yield management, advanced analytics, and product management. Ahmer received a Bachelor's degree in Chemistry from UC San Diego and completed executive education at UC Berkeley, Haas School of Business.

    Nic Rohart, Lead Vehicle Dynamicist | Mercedes-AMG Petronas Formula One Team

    Nic began his career in F1 racing in 2005 with Williams Grand Prix Engineering Ltd., working on the simulation and optimization of seamless shift gearboxes, hydraulic suspension components, brake balance shaping devices, and intercooler design for the hybrid turbo era. In 2013, he joined Mercedes AMG Petronas where he is now the lead engineer for the Vehicle Thermal Performance group that provides car physics modeling and performance development including factory-based race support. He holds two Masters degrees, one in Simulation & Modelling from the Ecole Polytechnique in France, and the other in Automotive Engineering from the RWTH-Aachen in Germany.

    Bob Moore, Senior Director, Field Applications Scientists | PerkinElmer Informatics

    Bob Moore is the Director of Worldwide Field Application Scientists at PerkinElmer. He has over 15 years of Business Intelligence, Data Visualization, and Data Wrangling experience. Data Wrangling, in conjunction with visual analytics tools including the TIBCO Spotfire Platform, has been an area of focus for him over the last decade. He understands the value, needs, and best practices around the process of data preparation as a critical step in the data visualization lifecycle. Prior to joining PerkinElmer Informatics, he held the position of Vice President, Enterprise Analytics Presales at TIBCO Software.

    Michael Swartz, VP, Research Informatics | PerkinElmer Informatics

    Michael Swartz is Vice President of Research & Clinical Informatics at PerkinElmer Informatics. He is responsible for the overall software strategy. He is an effective with a unique combination of strategic planning, sales, operational, R&D, technology, and domain experience. He came to PerkinElmer Informatics through the acquisition of CambridgeSoft where Michael was a pioneer in the Electronic Lab Notebook business.

    David Totten, Chief Technology Officer, US Partner Ecosystem | Microsoft

    David Totten is a leader in the Microsoft One Commercial Partner organization. The One Commercial Partner group manages field and partner integration and execution across specific disciplines, including technical capacity creation, practice development, partner profitability, and experiences, and go-to-market investment areas. He has only recently moved to 100% partner focus, recently leaving his leadership role as the Americas Capability Lead helping to build digital transformation, industry, and technical sales skills for a workforce of over 5000 individuals and managers.

    Previously, David was accountable for the United States go-to-market strategy for Office 365 across 18,000 accounts and 3,000 partners, blending all industries and verticals. He oversaw the Cloud Productivity value proposition, field and partner readiness, deployment programs, competitive intelligence, product evangelism, and customer experience across the entire Office 365 portfolio of solutions.

    David joined Microsoft in 2004 as a product manager within the Server and Tools Product Group. Over four years, David held a variety of roles across products and services before transitioning to the US subsidiary as the Director of Anti-Piracy. He has served as an Account Executive, Licensing Sales Manager, and Sales Director before taking on full accountability for Office 365 across the US.

    Michael O'Connell, Chief Analytics Officer | TIBCO

    Michael O'Connell, Ph.D., is the chief analytics officer at TIBCO, where he helps clients with analytics software applications that drive business value. He has written a bunch of scientific papers and software packages on statistical methods. He also likes listening to electronic music; watching basketball, football and cricket; going to art galleries, and walking around neighborhoods.

    Neil is TIBCO's Dr. Spotfire and a Data Scientist working with Spotfire. He loves to share stories of visual analytics, data science, real-time analytics, and building analytics apps.

    Nelson Petracek, Chief Technology Officer | TIBCO Software Inc.

    As the global Chief Technology Officer (CTO) at TIBCO, Nelson Petracek is helping to shape the development of TIBCO's emerging technology platforms and products. With over 20 years of experience, Nelson works to deliver solutions for the next stage of digital business, drawing upon his deep knowledge of cloud, blockchain, low-code applications, microservices, and event processing. A strong technology evangelist, he works with customers to identify and define the appropriate use of various technologies and architectures and advises on best practices and information delivery patterns.     Matt Quinn manages TIBCO's day-to-day operations and is instrumental in the growth and development of TIBCO's products and technologies, including the TIBCO Connected Intelligence Cloud. Formerly serving in executive roles including Chief Technology Officer and Executive Vice President, Products and Technology, Matt has spent more than 20 years with TIBCO leading large-scale transformations to organizational structure and product strategy. He received his BA in Computer Science and Masters of Applied Science Information Technology from RMIT University Melbourne.

    Fred Studer,  CMO | TIBCO

    Fred Studer is the Chief Marketing Officer of TIBCO. He's had a distinguished career in marketing, creative, and product management, with more than 25 years in the high tech industry. Previously, as the CMO of FinancialForce, he led the modernization of the brand, defined a targeted go-to-market model, and helped to dramatically improve marketing ROI and efficiency. Studer has also led worldwide marketing as the CMO of Gigamon and NetSuite, and before that, spent several years at Microsoft and Oracle. Originally from Denver, Colorado, Studer received his B.S. in accounting and finance from the University of Colorado Boulder and is a board member of the University of Colorado Leeds School of Business.

    A Platform for Data Discovery and Integration - Dave Barnett, Product Development Manager, Bahwan Cybertek - Clay Harter, Bahwan Cybertek, CTO Oil, and Gas - In a typical oil and gas company data takes many forms. It is stored in a variety of vendor projects, in corporate databases, and as unstructured documents scattered across file systems. The data sources may be either on-premise or in the cloud. The Geodatafy web application enables users to easily search across all sources to discover relevant data. Spotfire visualizations are then launched based on the selected data. A data quality module allows one to score data based on customizable business rules and matching data may be ?blended? to create ?golden? records.  Quality data may then be transferred between different vendor projects or transferred to a data warehouse to drive analytics workflows.

    This year's hackathon focused on analyzing wind power production in Texas. The year 2020 marked a record year for the global wind industry. Participants used real-world data from multiple sources like the Electrical Reliability Council of Texas (ERCOT) and the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) to model wind power production from weather patterns and wind farms? metadata.
