    Amazon Web Services (AWS)

    Open Subsurface Data Universe
    Presented by: Carlos Castro
Today's subsurface data is not optimized for data-driven applications, is very application dependent, and is often stored in silos with limited search capability. The Open Subsurface Data Universe (OSDU) is a standard data platform borne out of a collaboration between industry participants to address these business challenges. AWS is leading the way in making available a secure, reliable, global, cost-effective, and performant implementation of the OSDU standard. Oil and gas operators will benefit from the reduced resource and cost burden of independently designing and validating a subsurface data platform, and software vendors will benefit from having a standard way to search, access, and store subsurface data.

    Hess

Augmented Intelligence Transforms Competitor Insights and Decision Making
    Presented by: Graeme Gordon
The Exploration Game in Hess was set up to increase awareness of and interest in key exploration wells in Hess focus areas. Also, to encourage strategic thinking, which company is doing what and where, and to have some fun! Planned exploration well and drilling rig location data from over 25 external vendors blend together every 2 hours using live data feeds, machine learning, cloud services, and ultimately display in Spotfire web browser user interfaces. Digital transformation has come as a result of getting the foundation right on the IT architecture side, digital enablement through the speed of the Cloud, data access and front-end applications. Changing the way we work on the internal Hess client cultural side is seen as key. Updating the machine learning model through subject matter expert input, training and column transformation leads to augmented intelligence to provide better data insights. This is done through column schema mapping, unifying the data, and blending data into well data pairs and clusters. Data is a valuable resource. Better data enables sharper insights from ML and AI, produces better decisions, drives increasingly autonomous operations, and generates better data. Too much time is spent on data preparation vs. analysis and action. Removing the blinkers unlocks insights by getting the right data to the right people quickly.

    IHS Markit

Defining Stratigraphic Features from Seismic Attributes using Multi-Variate Analytics techniques
    Presented by: Camilo Rodriguez
Attribute computes are applied to seismic data to better understand basin structure, stratigraphic features, and rock and fluid properties. The analysis and interpretation of these mathematical computations are time consuming, and simultaneously visualizing multiple seismic attributes is challenging. IHS Markit has developed a methodology integrating Kingdom and Spotfire software, where combining Principal Component Analysis and multiple unsupervised classification techniques like K Means, hierarchical classification, and SOM, will allow interpreters to visualize multiple attributes in just one map. From there, they can interpret the meaning and contribution of every variable in the map, extract the most relevant variables out of hundreds for more detailed analysis, and run seismic classification to better delineate the basin.

How Much Running Room Does the Shale Revolution Have Left
    Presented by: Andrea Anderson
The shale revolution has produced growth in production that has been unparalleled in the history of the oil industry. In fact, shale's potential to grow and satisfy demand growth has capped long-term price expectations, and yet, the resource is not infinite. The reality is that every play will eventually look like the Barnett, able to generate cash flow, but with limited growth potential due to exhaustion of the very best acreage. In this session, we will dive into the data of each of the major oil and gas shales to understand the level of development of the productivity core and provide some ranges as to the time horizon for these growth engines.

    PDF Solutions

Cognitive Analytics for Semiconductor Manufacturing, A Smart Testing Application
    Presented by: Ken Harris
The semiconductor manufacturing industry is now leveraging its data and applying artificial intelligence to solve its business problems. For example, fabs are combining and analyzing data to predict when a tool for a particular process needs maintenance, or to optimize throughput throughout the fab. Some work has also been done on utilizing the entire fab's data to control the manufacturing process to improve yield and device performance. PDF Solution's Smart Testing? uses ML to predict if a chip will pass a test station before testing it on that test station. Using this system, customers have been able to skip a significant amount of expensive tests while maintaining very low defects and minimal field returns. In this talk, we will demonstrate how the latest machine learning methodologies are brought to bear in semiconductor use cases.
